Advent Windows December 2020
2020 was a somewhat unusual year, so it was arranged for the village to become an advent calendar, of sorts, by having Midgley Advent Windows.

Tous en Velo pour la Musique – 28 June 2014
A really spendid event that we should try to repeat!
‘Tous en velo pour la musique’ was a mass cycle ride between Midgley School and Old Town Green, through the centre of Midgley and along Heights Road.
Children and families from these villages were invited to attend and the children from Midgley and Old Town schools had sought sponsorship.
The road between Midgley and Old Town was closed to traffic from 10.30am to 12.45pm to ensure that the cyclists have a safe journey. The buses were cancelled during this period.
Houses along the way offered refreshment stops to fortify the cyclists, some of whom had never ventured so far on their cycles.
From Midgley School to Old Town Green
The ride began 11.00 am, from Midgley School where a competition was held for the best decorated bike and refreshments were served.
On arrival at Old Town Green there was a prize giving and medals were awarded to all participating children to commemorate the day.
Fabulous Musical Fete at Old Town
In the afternoon there was a fabulous musical fete at Old Town. with poetry, craft and dance as well as music.
Bunting Group
In order to celebrate the Tour De France Grand Départ on July 6th 2014, Cragg Vale residents aimed to break the World Record for the longest continuous stretch of bunting and then hang it up the side of the Cragg Vale cycle route, which is the longest continuous hill in England (just over 5 miles)
A group of Midgley villagers helped with this by making about 400m. Well done, and thank you, to all the bunting makers of Midgley.

Midgley Village Celebrated the Queen's Jubilee in 2012
The village of Midgley in West Yorkshire celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 with a huge street party
Community Foundation Grant
The Community Foundation of Calderdale gave a generous donation of £900 towards the costs of our Jubilee Street Party.
The grant enabled us to stage a truly memorable event for village residents, bringing all generations together for a unique celebration of community spirit and neighbourliness.
A Great Party Atmosphere
We were overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm of Midgley people who turned out en masse and brought with them the most wonderful feast, along with good cheer and patriotism which made a great party atmosphere.
Road Closed to Reclaim the Street for the Party
The most important element of the party was the road closure, which enabled the community to ‘reclaim the street’ for the day.
This brought people together safely to enjoy music, dancing and children's games. This would have been impossible with the usual flow of traffic.
We could not have paid for the road closure without the Community Foundation grant so we are extremely grateful for that.
Children's Entertainer
The grant also paid for a very popular children's entertainer and the gazebo to put him in, and many metres of bunting, patriotic tablecloths and flags.
